09 FEBRUARY VINODINI NILKANTH (1907 to 1987)
Vinodini Nilkanth was born on 09 February 1907, in Ahmedabad. Her father was the famous novelist and politician Ramanbhai Nilkanth and her mother, Vidyagauri Nilkanth, was a social reformer and educator. Hailing from a family of writers and thinkers, it was only natural that Vinodini would take to writing too. She published her first book of essays while still in her teens. She went on to write novels, short stories, journalist columns, and children’s literature. Interestingly, she also translated English classics like ‘Pride and Prejudice’ into Gujarati. Her column Ghar Gharni Jyoti in a daily called Gujarat Samachar, was very popular. She was awarded for her short story collection Dil Dariavna Moti and Angulino Sparsh. Vinodini Nilkanth passed away on 29 November 1987.
