29 SEPTEMBER DR SATYA VRAT SHASTRI (1930 to 2021)
Born on 29 September 1930, Dr Satya Vrat Shastri had the privilege of being educated by his father Pandit Charu Deva Shastri. Both a creative and critical Sanskrit writer, Dr Shastri’s writings include three Mahakavyas of about a thousand stanzas, each of which is a subject for research in Universities today. In India, Dr Shastri and his father are perhaps the only two from the same family who have been awarded the President of India Certificate of Honour. One of the world’s most famous Sanskritists, in 2006, Dr Shastri became the first recipient of the Jnanpith award in the Sanskrit language, and in 2010 he received the Padma Bhushan from the Govt. of India. He passed away on 14 November 2021.
