22 SEPTEMBER GURU NANAK DEV JI (1469 to1539)
Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469, at Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi, near Lahore in present-day Pakistan. Referred to as Bābā Nānak (Father Nānak), he was the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. Guru Nanak’s Dev Ji’s life embodied the values he taught. He travelled far and wide spreading the message of ‘One God’, who dwells in every one of His creations, and that God constitutes the eternal truth. Guru Nanak Dev Ji preached the message of universal brotherhood. Guru Nanak Dev Ji's teachings are recorded in Gurumukhi in the form of verses in the sacred Sikh scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib. He passed away on 22 September 1539.
