The video is a presentation on the tribal mask dances of Eastern India. These dances prevail in a wide geographical setting that stretches from the tribal pockets of the hills of Sikkim to the tribal homelands of Jharkhand and Mayurbhanj in Odisha.The film focuses on the mask dances prevalent in these lands and talks about the production of these masks which reflect the art, art history and craftsmanship of the society. This documentary talks about the different tribal art forms that use masks as a part of their rich culture and heritage. It covers seven such art forms; Saraikela Chhau which is found in different villages of Jharkhand; Pashu Nritya of Odisha, in which animal masks are used; Purulia Chhau, where the community of Santhals perform this art form; Gambhira of Malda, performed on festive occasions; Gamhira of Dinajpur performed to mark the new year; Singhi Chham and Yak Chham of Sikkim and the Bhavna of Assam.
