Description: The video is a documentation of the folk and tribal dances of North East India. The various folk and tribal dance forms from all the northeast states of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are documented in the video. Bohag Bihu dance is documented from Jamugurihat in Assam. Bohag Bihu is a harvest festival which marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year. The Laho dance of the Jaintiya community is also featured in the video. This dance is performed during the Behdienkhlam festival. The other dances which are documented in the video include those of the Halam tribe of Tripura, the Ao Naga tribe and the Meitei community (Pakhangba Haraoba) of Manipur. Folk and tribal dances from the states of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim (Chaburange) are also featured in the video. In almost all dances, the drum constitutes the central instrument.
Most of these dances reflect the reverence of the communities towards their respective deities.
