The various tribes and ethnic groups of rural Bengal have their own distinctive folk art that is associated with agricultural and mythological events.The martial dances typically depict events from great epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata which are performed around the year to mark various occasions at fairs, festivals and religious events. The folk traditions which are featured in the video include Baul songs, Gambhira, Gajan, Bolan,Chhau dance, Santhali dance, Mundari dance, Raibenshe, Lokhun Nritya, Jhumur, Natua, Nachni, Tusu songs, Dhal, Paika, Nachan Rene, Larai Lunge, Damphu Nritya amongst others. Some old and rare clippings from the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre's documentation library have been used in the video to show the dances in their most authentic forms.
