Description: This video is a presentation on the various folk dances and culture of the member states of the West Zone Cultural Center (WZCC). The WZCC is comprised of the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa. Some of the folk art and culture represented in the video from these states include the folk instrument bhapang and folk dances like Kalbelia and Kathputli dance of Rajasthan, the Lavani dance of Maharashtra and the Garba and Tippani dances of Gujarat. The bhapang is a two-headed percussion instrument which resembles the damru. The instrument has a unique sound and is used during performances by communities like the Bhat and the Mev. The Lavani dance of Maharashtra is performed by women and is usually accompanied by songs. This lively dance is performed to the beats of the dholak. Tippani is a folk dance of Gujarat performed by women using sticks.
