Chenda is a percussion instrument made of wood, parchment and leather. A temple instrument found in Kerala. It is an essential accompaniment for the Kathakali dance of Kerala, also used during temple rituals etc.

A hollow cylindrical drum made of wood. Both faces covered with thick parchments and tied by thick movable leather loops. Slung from the waist, struck by two curved wooden sticks. An essential accompaniment for the Kathakali dance of Kerala, also used during temple rituals etc.
