01 OCTOBER GAJANAN DIGAMBAR MADGULKAR (1919 to 1969)
Gajanan Digambar Madgulkar was born on 01 Oct 1919 in Maharashtra. Popularly called Ga Di Ma, he was a prolific poet, short story writer, novelist, scriptwriter, and lyricist. Ga Di Ma’s work cannot be classified under one specific genre, as he wrote on a wide range of subjects. He is said to have penned over 2000 poems and more than 150 short stories in Marathi. The Geet Ramayan, one of his best-known works, is a set of 56 songs that chronologically describes the events from the Ramayan. He received the Sangeet Natak Akademy award (1951) and the Padma Shri (1969) for his contribution to Marathi literature. Ga Di Ma passed away on 14 December 1977, leaving behind a priceless legacy.
