03 MARCH USTAD GHULAM MUSTAFA KHAN (1931 to 2021)
Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan was born on 03 March 1931 in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh to a family of musicians. His father and grandfather were legendary musicians, and his mother was the daughter of Ustad Inayat Husain Khan, the founder of the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana of music. At the age of eight, he performed for the first time in a concert. He received his training in classical music from his father. He expanded his repertoire and learned the light and semi-classical forms such as thumri, dadra, kajri, ghazals, and bhajans. He was a doyen of music, and his students include Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey, A R Rahman, Sonu Nigam, Shaan, and many more. The Govt. of India honoured his contribution to Indian music with the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan in 1991, 2006, and 2018 respectively. Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan passed away on 17 January 2021.
