03 DECEMBER DR RAJENDRA PRASAD (1884 to 1963)
Dr Rajendra Prasad was born on 03 December 1884, at Ziradei in present-day Bihar. A lawyer by profession, Dr Prasad played a prominent role in India’s freedom struggle and was an integral part of the 1931 Salt Satyagraha Movement and the 1942 Quit India Movement. A great humanitarian, when Bihar was affected by a flood and an earthquake in the 1930s, Dr Prasad was there to help with the relief work. Dr Rajendra Prasad was unanimously elected President of India in 1950 and remains the longest-serving President of India (1950- 1962). He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1962, in honour of his exemplary service to the nation. Dr Rajendra Prasad passed away on 28 February 1963.
