02 OCTOBER MAHATMA GANDHI/LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI
October 2 is the birth anniversary of two of India's greatest leaders, Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, visionaries who were instrumental in India's freedom struggle. Gandhiji was born in 1869 in Porbandar (Gujarat). Fondly referred to as ‘Bapu’, he is revered and respected the world over as one of history’s most inspirational leaders. Gandhiji’s ideals of non-violence and truth have left an indelible mark on mankind. Subash Chandra Bose is the one who first referred to Gandhiji as ‘The Father of the Nation’. Lal Bahadur Shastri was born 35 years later, in 1904, at Mughal Sarai (Uttar Pradesh). Known for his calm demeanour, integrity, and high ideals, he was deeply influenced by the political teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Lal Bahadur Shastri served as the second Prime Minister of India (1964- 66). Today, the nation pays homage to these two stalwarts.
