26 NOVEMBER CONSTITUTION DAY (SAMVIDHAN DIVAS)
On 26 November 1949, the Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly. On 24 January 1950, the members of the Constituent Assembly signed two hand-written copies of the document (one each in Hindi and English), which came into effect two days later, on 26 January 1950. Dr B R Ambedkar, the Chairman of the Drafting Committee, was the Chief Architect of the Constitution of India and is called the Father of the Indian Constitution. In 2015, it was decided to celebrate November 26th as Constitution Day or Samvidhan Diwas to raise awareness and promote constitutional values amongst citizens. The Indian Constitution has been hailed as the longest and one of the world's best Constitutions because even though it is more than seventy-two years since its adoption, it has been amended only about 100 times.
