31 JANUARY BISHNU PRASAD RABHA (1909 to 1969)
Born on 31 January 1909, Bishnu Prasad Rabha is a well-known poet, dramatist, musician, dancer, actor, and writer from Assam. An icon of Assamese culture, he is popularly known as Kala Guru (Master of Art), among the people of Assam. His music today is known as ‘Bishnu Rabha Sangeet’. Bishnu Prasad was a multifaceted personality. Besides being closely connected with art, culture, and theatre in Assam, he played an active role in India’s freedom struggle and dedicated his entire life towards this cause. Though he was also a writer, many of his books were published posthumously. Some of his works include Mising Coneng, Sonpahi, Axomiya Kristir Samuh Abhash and Atit Asom. Bishnu Prasad Rabha passed away in 1969, leaving behind a priceless legacy for generations to come.
